You know that was the only place I did see real BLACK chevron beads.
I'm putting some up on my ebay store. Pricing them will be tough since
out of at least 200 ebay and estay stores I just couldent find any
so I'm going to assume that they are scares.
I'm sure most collectors have some but I never see these for sale
anywhere.
Your options welcome.......Thanks

I have had some of these beautiful beads, and some five layer too. Here is my one seven layer black, and a couple other specials.

Nice Chev's. I haven't seen any of those rounder one's either.
What I'm trying to understand is why these Black chevrons don't come up for sale very often.
Why is it so hard to find this type of chevron. Why aren't there more of these on the market ?
At the Pecard bead site they only have 5 beads up for sale at %75. and I
Really don't know what to ask for mine yet.
I might have to wait a while to sell them or start so high I look greedy.
has anyone else seen black chevrons for sale anywhere ?

Indeed, I already said in a conversation on the forum that the black chevron beads were not common. But I was told it was wrong and they were frequent. I think they have never been very prevalent on the African market. In 40 years of Africa I did not find many. Here is a photo with black chevron beads of different sizes from my collection. On the one hand, I found larger black chevron beads as the largest bead in the picture. Besides there is one on my site KIKASBEAD. It was a little easier to find small black chevron beads like other beads but never very very frequent.

They are out there. Most of these were collected with the last 2-3 years.
The beautiful necklace is from Jan Skipper AKA mosquitobay
Most of the small ones are from a variety of ebay sellers.
The rest are from online auctions or me buying directly from someone I met online.
When I had my store back in the 1990's I use to see on a regular basis full stands of these. In comparison to yellow jacket chevrons which are more common I probable saw one full strand of black for every 25-30 yellow jackets from the traders. I think the main reason you don't see more it that they were just not popular within the trade itself so less were produced and traded.
Does this make them rare\valuable? It all depends on the buyer.

Thanks all. I'll keep all this comment in mind when I put these up at my store.
I spent a week going through websites and the Black Chevron was
the only bead that I saw the fewest of. 1 on the Picard site and on one
they even showed Blue chevrons and called them black.
Thanks for the insight on these black chev's

your black chevron beads do not look like the ones I found in Africa. I do not think they're from the same period. This chevron bead show 5 layer. I found them on the African market in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in the 1990's.

Hello! I own several black chevron like yours! But, I especially have several wonderful large five layer black chevrons. I would say they are rare because it took me years of living in Africa to assemble the long strand that I own! To my surprise they rarely come up for sale onEbay and when, they do, they are expensive!

Hi All, I know the black 5 layer has been discussed in this thread and would agree that there isn't a lot of these types offered for sale. From my humble experience in collecting 5 layer chevrons, I have found the blue 5 layer chevrons to be harder to find. I understand this may not be the case for other people when looking for these types, but it has been for me. What are other opinions on 5 layer black or blue types? Do sellers fetch more for the black 5 layer beads or are the 5 layer blue chevrons getting similar prices? Are 5 layer black chevrons getting more because there are a lot more blue 4,6 and 7 layer chevrons out there? Thanks,
Matt

P.S. Where I said "1917" I ought to have said 1911. This is the date Moretti has given for their line of chevron beads. http://beadcollector.net/cgi-bin/anyboard.cgi?fvp=/openforum/&cmd=iYz&aK=78516&iZz=78516&gV=0&kQz=&aO=1&iWz=0

For all of the linkage to past discussions. I imagine the BCN archive, going back perhaps 13 years, is underutilized. Some folks have difficulty using the site search, it just takes some practice. But using Google works too.

But fortunately, there are plenty of good folks here who do, and Jamey who remembers where EVERYTHING is. :^) Re: the image, no chevrons, just everytime someone asks about my "Roman" glass bead jewelry, I quote Jamey, "...surely no more than 800 years old...." and they love it! (Very few are bead collectors, so 800 years is very impressive.) ;-)
