Ok, my hands are shaking as I write this, but I had to stop what I was doing and share this with you guys. I haven't unwrapped everything, but here is a sample of what I'm finding in an estate auction shipment received today. This person was a serious and long-term collector, the estate was in New York. In a way it makes me sad that someone put all this work into collecting but didn't pass the collection on and no one they knew valued it. I have found tons of millefiori, an etched carnelian and other ancients, some Venetian fancies...more pics to follow

I have wanted an etched carnelian forever and I finally have one (9 o'clock position). This group was in a decomposing plastic bag, I have transferred these and other groupings (more photos coming) into more stable containers, but I have kept the groups together as I found them even though it seems they may be a mish-mash of eras and origins. I don't know, I look forward to your comments!

Some of these are probably Ibar-Oberstein, but I'm wondering if there are any Pyu type older beads, like the greenish ones. Would you need more close-up pictures to tell. I hate to think I have to take close-ups of every bead I'm curious about but it may come down to that I realize. Thanks again for looking and commenting. Melissa

Don't know how the blue "Russian" got into this group, but it gives you an idea of the size of these, some no bigger than the head of a straight pin

I've seen crinoid fossils that look like some of those. They have been used as beads.

First photo is of some of my favorite Venetians, some I haven't seen before (the translucent white with banding and orange spots) and some that I've always coveted (the "Delft blue" and faux coral). Second photo is just part of the stash, the plastic container is full of millefiori and it is 4" tall by 6" in diameter. The rest of the stash includes a lot of turquoise, wood beads, amber, malachite, old excavated rings...this really going to be a process to go through. I really wonder who collected these, it is obviously years and years of work... I look forward to your comments, and thanks for looking Melissa

How wonderful for you! I'm very envious. That looks about a 50 times bigger pile than what I've shown recently. I want to ask how you found it, but I wouldn't blame you if you don't want to say. The thrill of the hunt, that's all part of it.

How could I not say where I got it, you all have helped me out so much over the years that would be the height of ungratefulness. It was on one of the online action sites (not the big-E) and advertised as a "box lot". The problem for them is they took crummy photos, didn't show all the contents spread out and the stuff on top that they DID show was basically junk (brightly colored wooden beads). I just happened to catch a glimmer of some millefiori underneath and we were off to the races :) I don't know if that info is going to help anyone, I basically lucked into it as I was watching some other items in this auction and saw this lot. I haunt sites like Live Auctioneers and Proxibid, and go to a lot of local auctions, antique shows, estate sales, and antique shops. This is the second bunch I've come across like this, it's been about 2-3 years since the last one. This one is MUCH larger and more varied. It's like a dream that I'm afraid I'm going to wake up from! heehee Thanks for looking everyone, please keep the comments coming (I'm especially interested to know about the non-Venetian beads which I am far from expert in) and I'll be sure that anything I sell shows up in the trade pages here first (that is not an ad, it's a promise to all my bead buddies). Happy Easter everyone!
Melissa

I'm heading out for the best part of the day but will be back in the evening to sort more and take more photos. Thanks all for your comments so far. Please help me identify some of these (if possible) so I can start to get the groupings straightened out. Melissa
