I an still trying to identify this necklace. It is part of the collection of The Bead Museum that was donated to the Mingei in San Diego. I am an intern helping to catalog the collection.
The beads have been identified by Joan Eppen as "Job's Tears". The dangles are etched bone or possibly shell. I am trying to find the origin of the necklace. I have searched for images in all areas where these seeds are used but have not found a similar necklace. Has anyone seen anything like it?
Thanks for your help.

Is it possible to make a detailed picture of the red and black beans?

All of my photos are too high a resolution to submit to this site. I have to crop or downsize them, or if you want me to send them via e-mail I can do so. I appreciate any help.

Yes, please reduce both the DPI and the size of the image so that those more knowledgeable than I might be able to assist you. If you use Photoshop, click on "image size" to do both, then save the modified image with a new name.

With all of today's fancy technology...folks are no longer needing to learn how to edit images...

except for dinosaur sites like BeadCollector.net. This is because we are using software that is 15 years old, and we have over 10 years of archived material that is non-functional if we try to transfer it to any other software. AND we are not Facebook, David's last name is not Zuckerberg, and so, it goes without saying, we don't have Facebook funds.

So anyway, I've been using Photoshop elements for years, it still works great. I resize selecting 72 dpi, often 650 - 800 pixels wide. I often can still select a fairly high quality resolution (compression) without going over the 256k limit.

I still feel very privileged to be able to read and see all the knowledge and pictures of the past 10 years! One might forget there are some extremely dedicated people behind the BCN scenes. So I can't say it enough : thank you!

Thank you, Martine, I wasn't looking for "accolades", but am feeling a slight pang of regret that technology is what will eventually force bcn to edit heavily and shut down and hopefully remain a searchable archive, beginning a new board that is less user friendly and with less continuity, as other boards are...

And I'll say it again, you all are what make this superb bead community, our thanks! :)

There are quite a few online forums that have slowed down a lot over the last year or so. Facebook makes things very easy and quick. However, I use the search option on BCN a lot, and the amount of knowledge shared here is pretty remarkable!

I also wanted to say that I am so grateful that BCN is a site rich in information and great people.

I'll try to resize again.I cropped the high resolution image rather than reducing it with photoshop. I thought that would preserve the details better.

Admiralty islands?

Your necklace puzzled me for the past week.
The engraved pendants are bone for sure. Still love to see details of the seeds.
The pattern of the seeds, the use of job's tears and bone engraving reminds me of Oceanic jewelry. The closest resemblance are for me the Admiralty islands, Papua New Guinea.
Is their no clue on the backside of the storage box or name donor?
Love to hear more about this or other objects in the collection.

Thanks for the suggestions. There wasn't any documentation in the box with the necklace. There was a penciled notation on the box "probably Southeast Asian". I have seen similar bead colors and the multiple strand style in images from Borneo and Papua New Guinea. The geometric etchings on the dangles resemble some on a shell bracelet from Indonesia.
