Hi everyone, it’s been a minute. I have recently come across these charming Venetian beads, bought at an Italian antiques market.

Would anyone be able she’d any light on the time period? A fair number of them have some peculiar holes in them any ideas as to why they have occurred? I thought perhaps it was an age issue in that perhaps the making process hadn’t yet been refined.

Any comments are always welcome

Hello Sammi,

I would be more inclined to suspect these beads were cranked-out—and the unexpected holes are just burst air bubbles. So, rather than suspecting these might be "early," I suppose they were later, from the time that there was a market for this style of flower beads, and greater numbers of them were commissioned from cottage makers.

Thank you bead man, I too did not think that they were super early because of the aventurine tracing, would you say that the use of aventurine started around the 30's????

Many thanks as always
