Walter if I knew what case it is in. I took this image years ago and have five roll around cases that we used to take to the Tucson show when we were selling. I may have an image of the hole when I took this image I will look and if I find one I will post it.
All my best...........Danny I would say the stone it Orbicular Jasper

That really is an amazing bead, Danny. I don't remember ever seeing one quite like it with such regular eyes. Here are a couple of my own favourites. The first is from Central Asia. The second was found in Northern Burma near Halin. Cheers, Will

I don't have pics of the bead from Burma and it's at my home in Thailand right now. It's just over 5 cm.Here's a photo of the hole on the other one, from Central Asia; it's about 29 mm and has a nice bulk to it. W.

And of course there are so many etched/decorated stone beads with multiple eyes, though they're not what you really meant, Danny. The first is from the Indus Valley. When I showed it here once before, I suggested the decoration referred to the seven stars of the Pleiades, but they can also be eyes. Certainly in later Islamic iconography eyes and stars frequently overlap. The second is a micro-bead about 6mm across. I called it an un-Zi, tongue in cheek, because it's black on white (Beck's Type 2 category), whereas Zi of course are generally white on black or brown. It has three large eyes one of which has a dot in the centre. It comes from one of the sites in Burma where ancient pumteks have been found, but it's not pumtek material - a very pretty little bead, I think. I have another from the same site, black on white, three eyes again with the eyes as part of a scroll pattern, but it's not here with me and I don't have the photo. W.

One of the occasional qualities I like in stone beads is when there's an irregularity in the texture of the stone, between one seam in the agate and another. I don't know the correct terminology for this, or the explanation. I'm sure Danny or Jamey or Frank will be able to tell me. Anyway, it's what there is in the centre of the eyes in this bead that I'm attaching; again from Central Asia. Cheers, Will

The term for that is 'druzy,' when one set of crystals forms over the top of another. Today we hear that term applied when the crystals are still bright and sparkly but it's still the correct term for this phenomenon.

Hi Stefany,
have you more information on this interesting bead?
can you show us the perforation?
Is it a Mezo- or South American bead?
Age? Kind of mineral?
Be well, hans

Hans-
i discovered that this 3-faced pale chalcedony bead with eyes incised using a circle-dot tool seems to me to be very similar to beads found in Syria, in Hababu Kabira, of 3rd millennium BC.
It is illustrated on p. 18 in my bead collectors book. it was bought by me quite a while ago with no information.
My collection of many items is unfortunately kept in my workshop which is currently locked up, not at home, so i'm using images already in my computer and i don't have a view from above showing the hole. Next time i can sneak a visit i may get it, but am obeying the stay-at-home advice now.
my son and daughter don't want to lose their kids' granny yet...

you can see a rougher example of this very type on the timeline in James Lankton's " A Bead Timeline, vol 1" at no 285, described on page 28 of his book.

Hello Greg I have been searching thru many records to see if records exist showing how the used these beads. Pendants attached to the clothing or is there records of multi stone necklaces?? I would like to eventually to exhibit some of my beads individually and some composed into necklaces with carnelian and green quarts beads If any BCN members can point me to some records detailing how the beads were used would be appreciated. I have seen record of a bead found at the neck suggesting it was worn around the neck and others are found in various locations. All input welcome from Walter
