Here's a strange one

This bead (23 mm long x 10 diameter) is one I haven't seen before. It is sparsely decorated with tiny pieces of tiny striped cane - which reminds me of the "candy cane" decorations on Venetian beads.

The hole is tapered, from about 2 mm on one end, to about 4.5 mm on the other end.

Found on a strand of mixed trade beads that included Venetian, Czech, Indian, powder glass, a broken Pumtek, and misc. new glass and stone beads.

Any ideas?

Some similar beads, color of glass and rough winding indicates India to me.

Thanks for the photo! I don't particularly like the aesthetic, if I may say so...

But I appreciate knowing more about this style of bead - one I had never seen before.

and you sure may say that. That's why I have only three beads as reference and not a whole necklace ;-)
