this little vase just came to the surface among my mum's items, so i hope it has a relationship with some of the early 20th C beads we have been discussing?
its 90 mm tall- the round drum-like middle decorated with plants + insect, and bird and sea on the other side, has a diameter of 45mm, and its 30mm deep.
next message shows another view...
Also i don't know how valuable it would be. Fred? Chris?

It has entirely Japanese characteristics, likely from post-1870 judging from the type of enamels.

A nifty and appealing little piece, but unsigned and thus probably not too pricey. The drum design is not common, and may be unique to this piece, however, so a collector might have a valuation different from the prices I've observed on eBay for small c1900s Japanese pieces, which generally seem to go for less than $100.

Apparently Japanese cloisonne production before WWI catered to foreign retailers and tourists, with a few select artists producing for international exhibitions. The difference in price range is $50 versus $5,000 - pretty much the same for most arts & crafts, eh?
