They sell all kinds & colors of chevrons from Chinese cane - maybe that's where the "range of colors" comment comes from. They also sell antique Venetian beads, including chevrons, and beads cut from vintage Venetian cane. Their ads often indicate Venetian beads when the full descriptions say they are reproductions. They've been in this business "a while".

Yes thank you - I saw all of that and have seen beadmantt's posts over the years - My question is regarding the story about an acquisition of numerous boxes of antique Venetian cane (in 2013) and the provenance of that cane that is now being used to produce "antique chevron beads." Is this similar to the Picard reds and blue/yellows that were from old cane? The sight of all those boxes of blue cane lined up makes me curious as the back story.

Sometime in the mid 90's The Souix Trading Post in Rapid City SD acquired two pallets of boxes of the last chevron cane from the Conterie. They approached me to teach them to grind the cane and several years later to appraise it. I was in the middle of a move and never got back to them on the grinding part but did stop in once on my way through on I-90 and looked at the pile. It was impressive. Later they asked me to appraise it from a couple of photographs. I demurred on that one as I had seen quite a bit of the cane in the several boxes I inspected which were cracked longitudinally. They didn't find my bid to do an on site appraisal to their liking and I don't know what happened to the cane after that. Perhaps the Howards have come into this cache of cane.

Okay, thanks Art. It was a rendezvous friend who called these beads to my attention and I had not kept up with this enough to know how to answer him. It sounds like that might be the cane I reference in this topic. Thanks for filling in a bit of the blanks in the provenance of these beads now being offered as antique venetian Howard family chevron beads. Fondly,
Joy

Hi Tom here from T&T Trading, Inc in Grand Ledge Michigan. "The Howard Family". We have been in business for over 37 years. Online our ebay name is beadmanttt. The cane is the same cane from the Prairie edge company.
A few pieces were damages but not much. This is a family tradition and will be for many years. We are a full time family business. We discussed the cane, the market and the pricing. We could have flooded the market and upset the Chevron balance so to speak but did not. One picture example is a copy we made of a strand from Africa. This was displayed at Bead & Button in Milwaukee. We have begun to teach the grandkids to grind. The different colors are a number of items. We also have Chineese cane as well as RARE Murano cane in several colors. We always market truthfully. While we are not experts we have been contracted by local & state agencies to make displays. We also deal with the Canadian government supplying our reproductions to them for a living history park. We continue to research, fuse, bend and try to do unusual things with glass. Have a Great Day. Tom

Thank you, tell me more about the rare murano cane - provenance - and the "prairie edge company" cane. Was the cache of "antique" cane from murano all a certain number of layers and points? Or was it a variety of cane types? Joy

The Howard familys chevrons are from antique original cane they came across in Murano italy. Apparently the building was being vacated and was a glass factory and had alot of unfinished venetian cane so the Howard family bought all of it and they cut and shape and hand polish all of them. These are essentially the real deal he explained too that some of the canes are much older than 100 years. Definately worth buying while there still reasonable I dont see these babies staying cheap for long
