Sometime in the mid 90's The Souix Trading Post in Rapid City SD acquired two pallets of boxes of the last chevron cane from the Conterie. They approached me to teach them to grind the cane and several years later to appraise it. I was in the middle of a move and never got back to them on the grinding part but did stop in once on my way through on I-90 and looked at the pile. It was impressive. Later they asked me to appraise it from a couple of photographs. I demurred on that one as I had seen quite a bit of the cane in the several boxes I inspected which were cracked longitudinally. They didn't find my bid to do an on site appraisal to their liking and I don't know what happened to the cane after that. Perhaps the Howards have come into this cache of cane.
