I've recently gotten into necklace design with crosses - here are two completed ones.

First is an Ethiopian cross, strung with old phenolic and silver beads, both from the Ethiopian trade.

Second, a micro-mosaic inlaid cross from the 1910-1920 era, strung with Czech "gear" interlocking beads plus new brass discs from India. These crosses are still seen today in all the tourist shops around the Vatican, but of much poorer quality. They have been a popular memento of a pilgrimage to Rome for a hundred years or so, according to Michel at Parapomiso in Venice, where I purchased mine.

I'm really only interested in the symbol from the anthropological perspective. This really cool Bolivian Cross needs white hearts, which I have plenty, also I have been collecting pre 1900's coins, old Milagros, and other interesting components. Some day I will complete this afflatus.

*Note the interesting hallmark on the cross, anyone got a clue for me?

I also have some Ethiopian items, needing inspiration. I am particularly in love with the zoomorphic cross with the eyes at the top, looks like a snake to me!

The cross with the circle on top also captures my imagination, my thought is the feminine, combined with one of the most paternal theologies, very interesting!

Are the coins genuine?

If so, sad they've been damaged by the chintz makers.

I think the impressions on the first one are the hallmarks of the silversmith. Could be a Native American piece.

I too think the cross to be an indigenous creation, the figure was cast, the cross was chiseled from some european silver. I hope someday to have information regarding the hallmark.
