I've recently gotten into necklace design with crosses - here are two completed ones. First is an Ethiopian cross, strung with old phenolic and silver beads, both from the Ethiopian trade. Second, a micro-mosaic inlaid cross from the 1910-1920 era, strung with Czech "gear" interlocking beads plus new brass discs from India. These crosses are still seen today in all the tourist shops around the Vatican, but of much poorer quality. They have been a popular memento of a pilgrimage to Rome for a hundred years or so, according to Michel at Parapomiso in Venice, where I purchased mine.
