Hey everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a while, life has been pretty tough for me the past few months and I have been holed-up waiting for the storm to pass. But, my fortunes have taken a decided up-tick. I am attaching some photos of a huge 6-7 layer chevron assemblage with a Peace Medal. I probably need to get a professional appraisal done, what are your thoughts?

Here is a mac daddy 7 layer and its little brother...larger one is exactly 2" long and 1-1/4" in diameter. 'Small' one is 1-1/4" long and 1" in diameter.

Very often on the reproductions you can see casting flash on the circumference, this looks good!

One thing is for sure re Peace Medals.....there are many thousands of fakes out there for every real item. There are several excellent books available over Ebay or Amazon re how to tell real from repro medals sold as real.Real US Peace Medals were made of copper and Silver....never bronze or pewter.
Is yours real silver or pewter or even German silver? That will tell you something quickly.
I will let the Chevron experts comment on the 6 layer chevrons.

Pretty sure it's silver...

...it's definitely not bronze or pewter...the weight of it, look of it and (I know this sounds dumb) but the smell of it tell me it's real silver. The wear patterns seem right, the edges and high points are softly worn and the patina seems right. The way it's strung makes me think it's been an assemblage as is for many years.
Would more photos help in any way? Should I send it to someone to have it authenticated? The way it sits it looks like a very valuable piece, but I'm sincerely baffled as to how to verify. In the meantime I'll see if I can find some books re Peace Medals.
Thanks very much for the input Jim, it means a lot to me. -Mel

Here's most of the rest of the beads in this group. I feel like I just cleaned out a rendezvous. Just call me Mountain Mel :)

Just an inquistative type here, but you found these in some mountains?? like in a non US country? like afghanistan? or some place in the middle east...i'm just learning about beads, and I'm fascinated. Never would be able to travel there, but curious about the wondrous possibilities.

The first pic shows a 30mm x 27mm seven layer with clear light green layers (this one has been through the wars, poor guy, very large chunk out of him)
The second pic shows a 25mm x 23mm seven layer with mixed black/brick red layers.

I know you guys are busy and having fun right now, but when you get some time I'd love to get your opinion on the age of the kiffas. I think they look detailed enough to be older but they are far outside my usual scope. I'll post some additional photos in a new thread later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement and for sharing in my excitement! -Mel
