Thank You Stefany. I hadn't even heard of the sealing wax on wood type but am struggling to find any examples online for comparison? I think they may be african in origin as there are quite a few that look of similar origin in the bundle I got. Will do some pics that are of the whole pieces- cheers.

i have a 1920s instruction booklet that shows how to decorate beads with sealing wax specially for jewellery or furnishing trimmings (lampshade fringes, etc)

thank you ! will take some pics of my necklace so can see how it compares for style etc. Fits in with the era of other things I have. I was so convinced it was a type of resin (though was baffled why anyone would paint that) never occured it could be wood.

The glass looks like from China. The air bubbles are a clue.
I think it's possible these are minority trade beads from China circa 1920's.
Size is right and color is right.

Thank you. that fits in with age of other item in same bundle I was given. the lady was born in 1880 that they belonged to.

Here is a better photo showing the loose beads and those still knotted onto the green silk thread. the one largest bead is 3/4 " diameter and the others are approx 1/4 " , ie about 14mm
