New one-of-a-kind bead?

A friend asked for a bracelet, made of alternate lapis and gold cylinder beads. Stone cylinders are plentiful, but my matching (modern) Indian gold cylinder beads are gone and I am not willing to go a hunting for them in the www anymore.
So I decided to indulge in a risky experiment:

The bead is 15,5 x 7 mm, with a 3 mm perforation. It is made of a 24ct gold sheet wrapped (by lathe) around a four years old bamboo stick from my patio.
The bead weights 1,99 grams (bamboo 0,37 grams; metal 1,62 grams).

The bracelet will have 5 of these gold cylinders
Now this friend, that lives just 100 meters away from my place, is a young succesful foot surgery doctor that takes care weekly of my feet...so whatever the outcome, my experiment will prove to be an expensive whim.
Is this not happiness?

Has the bamboo been thoroughly dried?

I would worry about the bamboo shrinking over time and ruining the support for the gold layer. Just thinking out loud...

Yes, it was cut several (perhaps six or seven) years ago: a thin, mature culm from a hardwood species.
Moreover, it has been sitting in my workshop since then.
After enduring the stress of the lathe, its toughness is proved.
Alas! I am shrinking faster...

Believe it or not, this is the lathe that gave birth to the bead pictured above.

A bracelet made with seven beads made with the new technique discussed above, strung on a cord of braided leather, with excavated bronze beads, either Celtic or Roman.
Yes, I am aware that small beads should be strung in between the beads, that all them may sit confortably.

Looks like they are empty, made with a rolled sheet of metal soldered at the edges. Otherwise, they may have a ceramic core, as some specimens found in the Indus Valley had.

These are certainly not a "cuff" now.

One must wonder whether their interment placement suggested a cuff..., but the Museum had no one to reconstruct it (?).

Yes, I wouldn't give it a name... I see it as just a string of beads...
(but so many excavated ornaments are displayed in museums and/or books as this, or that (i.e. necklace, etc) in ways probably not related to the original piece.

In an article from World Archaeology, Issue 29, signed by Aldenderfer. Here is an extract where the technique of making the beads is described:
"The beads were made by pounding nuggets of 95 per-cent pure gold to create a flat rectangle that would be wrapped around a stick to create a tube".
A stick was also used as core; but unlike mine, the metal sheet was wrapped around the stick, thus showing an unsightly seam along their length.

Resume: I have heard that no experiment fails -- which is of course right, since even when it fails, it turns out to be a precious learning experience. As well as in this case enjoyable !

Now,from my experiment I have learned that:

Better to forget our method for commercial or any other practical purpose, other then offering the outcome to a special friend (perhaps while kneeling). Because too costly. If made of gold, the sheet has to be rather thick, otherwise it breaks under the lathe's stress. If made of a cheaper metal -say silver- in our western hemisphere the labor cost is too high.
As a result my respect for the artistry and skill of Asian metalsmiths has been increased. Just to give a couple of examples: the goldsmiths that keep alive the secret(?) technique of gold-over-lac beads in India deserve it, while Thai prakeuam silver beads are also awesome.

OMG, my tiny beauties will most probably be recycled, hehe!
Enough for today.
