There are lots of wasy to clean silver or white metal. Some work better on alloys that have a higher percentage of actual silver. But most pieces will be improved.
You can make a paste from baking soda and water, and rub in on the piece.
You can rub tomato ketchup onto the piece.
You can use an old toothbrush and toothpaste.
In all instance you will rinse and dry the piece.
For larger items, or if you want to avoid the rubbing and scrubbing, the method that uses aluminum foil, baking soda, and hot water is surprisingly good.
