At the Chinese cloisonne group on Facebook, this little 8cm bottle was posted as a mystery object won at auction.

Many will no doubt recognize the coin motif, often combined to create enameled silver beads.

I have a hard time thinking this little bottle may have been made around the time court necklace beads were still in use, and suspect it's is - at earliest - a product of the state filigree workshop in Beijing that was nearly closed not too long ago during the wave of c2000 bankruptcies of state-owned enterprises.

Any guesses? 1920s? 1970s? Last month?

Reviewing a search for similar beads, Fred commented in a prior thread about perforated beads used as fragrance holders.

Perhaps not a snuff bottle, but a potpourri bottle?

I would be inclined to think of this as a sachet. Not a bottle, and not a bead.
