mixed strands with assorted mesopotamian modelled faience beads, a few shell and metal and a surprise elbow! these were in a mixed box in an auction many years ago - i never rethreaded them- the asymmetrical turquoise green elbow at the centre - look closely- in fact it is a small broken-off teapot spout!

Hi Stefany
Lovely strand you show. Although in the market fiance beads are among cheap one, but I liked them since I start study about ancient beads. The barrel shape are my favorite. I also spend some time making them strand.
Thanks for showing your head
Best wishes Ali

yes Ali- there are a number of the small faience beads as you show in your hand -with 2 holes...
does the shape look like a sitting bird or some other crouching animal? are there any examples or pictures in existence to indicate how they were meant to be threaded?
i like them because they are not such a high value, but it would be great to learn a bit more...

What I see is mostly a lion and wolf in standing position. Also looks like birds
And according to Tabriz museum some are dated Parthian period . I saw the samples in that museum but not threaded.
I think there should be photos in archeology books. Some times I am lucky to buy all strand of fiance beads . Ali

the skinny loop of ancient beads in the middle of the second photo has quite number of dentalium shells -the tapering slightly curved ribbed beads, with small handmodelled spherical beads in pale turquoise blue - and a rather obvious cheap modern screw clasp which i might replace one day...
