Mystery beads attn Rosanna!

I thought these might be lamp worked glass at first. They have clear yellow cores with an opaque body and a clear yellow case. They feel like bakelite, but Simichrome disagrees.

The ridges look like they were cut across with a lathe and then carved and sanded down. Lots of work one would think - but they are not identical. There are variations in the distances between marks and in the thumbnail ridges going around each bead.

Anyone seen such beads before?

Many thanks BCN.

I've never seen any like this - I'd have to do some tests before venturing an opinion. Would be happy to inspect one if you want to send one along.

I would be happy to send one along. I"m not sure I have enough olfactory sensitivity to discern anything myself.
Thank you Rosanna!

They are really pretty, have you run them under hot water? they could be celluloid if you were thinking that they were bakelite, if they smell like camphor ( a kind of menthol ish smell) then bingo.

Very nice though

These beauties turn out to be carved from Galalith. My nose was unable confirm anything but Rosanna confirmed the sniff test ID.
Attached here is a photo found on line of similar beads.
Yay BCN!
