I've owned this necklace for several years and have no idea of their origin or what they are. They are made of vegatative material with leather binding. Any information would be much appreciated. The necklace measures 10 by 10.5 inches. the second picture is enlarged.

yes i had a collar like that- its from Kenya made in a similar way to the wide flat many-rowed collars on wire that they also do or did using colourful rocailles - and the discs are wood or plant stem slices, i believe.

These are collars worn by young girls of the Pokot Tribe, Kenya
Made from roots of Cyperus papyrus L. – Bulrush - Cyperaceae.
Said also made from the twigs of t'kaukau, a wild asparagus, but maybe that's Bulrush too?
Later on these girl's get glass beads by their male admirers for more elaborate collars.

I totally agree with Hans. I will only add that girls make the wood or vegetal beads to demonstrate dexterity and patience. It is a traditional task that girls perform. Once they have made an ensemble, they soon graduate to wearing the more-colorful glass bead collars that Stefany mentions.
