These are some bird beads I have. They are around 15=20mm's long/
I don't know what these are made of.
They are very blue and look like blue mica or something like that.
Very well worn as well.
Has anyone seen other beads like these >> how old and what are they made of ???

Thanks so far...Have any of you seen beads or birds made of this stuff before??? It is very much like quartz or Mica type of structure.

They look like they have been around the block a few times.

Any photosw of parent material or other objects made of this stuff would be GR8....

Thanks again and....See ya at the forum ;)

Could they be labradorite? Labradorite is also prone to wear.

They are made of spectrolite a type of chatoyant feldspar that has been around for 50 years or more in very large amounts on the rockhound market. Today most is coming out of Madagascar and giant amounts are being put on the market. The beads were likely tumbled which causes the finished pieces to have an already worn look in areas due to the cleavage planes in the stone. Some planes are a bit harder than others and are able to be polished more effectively.

Could they be something like foiled/enameled beads?

KAYNITE...a quartz like crystal used for beads and gem work.
I visited one gem website that had a price of $900.oo-$1000.oo for
a 10ct stone of quality.
It can be hard to work with because of it's multi cleavages.
Usually blue it can also be green and appears worldwide.

Kyanite has been used for thousands of years.

So.....there you go...Floorkasp was spot on
