Here's the beads. they belong to a girl named Daphne. She lives down towards Frisco.
The blue beads are around 1/2" dia. I'm thinking Bohemian on the blue and I don't know about the other ones. I'm guessing some sort of wire dipped in powder glass and heated ?
Anyhow...They have been in the family for about 60yrs.
Lets give Daph a hand at the forum.
I'll have her check out your comments herself...how fun huh...
Thanks and see ya at the FORUM

The enameled beads look a lot like the beads from the Rita O'Kent collection discussed in the thread below, but without the cloisonné. Frederick, what are your thoughts about the beads and calling the city by the bay Frisco; locals call it San Francisco.

Welcome, Daphne!

Having always been relatively near "the city", and then living there for 12 years, and now about an hour north...my friends and family near and far mostly call it "the city". It's just known exactly what city we are referring to. If somebody calls it "Frisco", it just means they ain't from these parts. I don't take it personally.

I don't take it personally either and agree with your comments about the "City" with a capital C!

The "City" with a capital "C" has always been NYC.

Sorry for the use of the term Frisco, I will say in my defence that I grew up in California.I left there in 1976. I grew up in the SanFernando vally....I admit it...I am a VAL...Totally.
But in my 20 some odd years living there... We all used the term Frisco to denote the city of......Frisco. That's all I can say about that.
The proper way to say it would be Fris-Ko. The O is a long O sound.

in your thoughts & your speech. You are like the wind to me, blowing whichever way you want & carrying us all along with you regardless of what anyone else thinks! :) :)

Re the City,,,that's how I refer to my city, NY..... although I have many other references when I'm shoved by people on the subway, spit on almost by a business man running to buy more stocks, smiled at by a homeless man who should have nothing to smile at & proud by all the diversity around me!

Likely Venetian but normally called "Dutch Dogon", just like the black ones Nishedha posted a few days ago. This bead is found in various shades of blue, black, and white. If you search Dutch Dogon beads on eBay you will see more examples for comarison.

Herb Caen (1916-1997), Pulitzer Prize-winning legendary San Francisco-based columnist wrote, "One day if I do go to heaven...I'll look around and say, 'It ain't bad, but it ain't San Francisco.'" In "Don't Call it Frisco", he went on to be considered the ultimate authority on all things San Francisco for the next 44 years. In the San Francisco Chronicle, Herb Caen wrote, "Caress each Spanish syllable, salute our Italian saint. Don't say Frisco..." Another writer compared that kind of assumed familiarity to a lack of respect, akin to shortening the name of the famous composer Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff to Rocky.

One Chinese antiques dealer on Grant Avenue, San Francisco, informs me: "occasional low quality craftsmanship in Mandarin Court Necklaces suggest that they may have been used for costumes in the Beijing Opera."
