The beads are dyed freshwater pearls of various shapes and sizes. You can click on the link to read the seller description. I like the way the necklace was created, with a large link joining up 3 graduated strands, slip-knotted to flat suede cord. One of those projects that takes much more time than meets the eye to achieve the effortless feeling of the piece, I imagine.

I've used this basic design several times in different ways (good for ancient or modern beads) because I love the long but lightweight result and the casual yet elegant appearance. And yes, it's easier said than done because both the swede ties and the layers of beads have to be exactly measured and placed. Also the pearls may look like they're casually stung but , (for me anyway,) they are carefully chosen and arranged, one by one, as I go. I never make the same piece twice because I let the beads tell me what to do, and only have a general idea of the final concept before I begin. My thing is one of a kind pieces.. This necklace doesn't veer from the basic design, but due to the unusual shape and color of each pearl in this necklace, it could ever be duplicated . Don't know how this artist prices her things, for me it's all about the value of the materials and most importantly, the unique look and beauty of the finished piece.
