Hello,

I have two dzi beads and one red coral bead that I am looking to sell. I know somewhat of the prices on them so I am not looking to get scammed out on it but would still sell to a reseller. I have two pictures attached but if interested, even just out of curiosity, I would gladly send you more photos, just comment below I know the red coral bead is antique and rare because these came from a friends mom's collection, she had got them over 25 years ago. Also the bead is drilled for a necklace and you can see red all the way through. So if interested in purchasing just message me below and I can get you my personal information and we can go from there.

Thanks,
Deven

He may sincerely not know these aren't antique or old. I don't understand why people assume that a seller couldn't be unknowingly looking to sell something he's been told are old. Why do we assume he's trying to scam a buyer? I don't know enough on dzi beads to explain that these are newly made, but I feel badly for someone who could have truly just made a sincere mistake because of lack of knowledge. Lynne

if you read his quotes:"I know somewhat of the prices on them so I am not looking to get scammed out on it" and "I know the red coral bead is antique and rare" ...you will see he is very matter of fact making some some very strong statements regarding the age and values! I, as well as a few other collectors here, can tell from the pictures that these are not old or authentic.....I am only making any potential buyers on this forum aware to beware of misrepresentation. There is plenty of info regarding what he shows readily available if one wishes to investigate further. He may sincerely not know they are newer beads of nominal value, no one is accusing him of fraud, my tone would sound much harsher if that were the case. BTW he is the only one that used the word scammed....

perhaps it's my mood today, & I too know these are new beads. I just think his comments that you referred to could perhaps be because he was told this by someone he trusted. That's all. You are all such great educators with your knowledge & i know I've learned so much from you & others on this site. So, was just feeling he maybe would be open to learning as well. I obviously could be wrong. Sorry if you felt I was being accusatory towards you..That wasn't my intent. I just love when this forum is always welcoming to newbies, even if they do sound like they may know it all. I spent years just reading & not posting initially because I wanted to learn more before I did. Others may be different. I just want us all to accept everyone who is interested in this passion of ours. Thanks for hearing me out, and again, I apologize if you felt I was attacking you! Lynne

You are a kind person, thanks for the note. I did not want to come across as gruff or nasty, I hope I didn't! Floor said it best: "Then again, he did not ask for any discussion of the beads, so no explanation is 'owed'. He simply wanted to sell them and did so in the wrong place."......to me he came across as a bit smug and pushy....I'm not the best at educating on the beads he shows but I know they are new and not as he described them, I wanted any potential buyer to be made aware of that fact. All too often if something gets posted here, it gives credibility.....just helping with the checks and balances

I think there are plenty of people who unknowingly sell something as antique and or rare when it is not. I would presume that if you are doing it knowingly, doing it at a collector's site is not your best choice.
I assumed he was simply given wrong information and sent him a private reply informing him of what I thought these beads were.

Then again, he did not ask for any discussion of the beads, so no explanation is 'owed'. He simply wanted to sell them and did so in the wrong place.

When I first came to the forum, I read every early post about certain types of beads and necklaces and, for months after finding the forum, I labored under the misunderstanding that all of examples pictured were genuine; this was because no one said otherwise. When I raised the same topic months or years later with questions of my own, it took a bit of pressing for someone to come forward and say the necklaces were fakes and explain why. I'm writing this to say that it is indeed tricky all around.

It's all because you can't see ultimate details from photos and the people around here are too insecure to handle criticism. It's a very thin science when no one really has the kind of training or background to say more than sweet ambiguous things. It's a hobby, not a science.

But that is precisely why they need to be discussed.
