A quick trip report from me form my 5 day trip to Murano.

I know I still owe you a Indonesia/Borneo trip report, but thought I'd start with this one first.

Peter and I left on New Year's Day for Murano, celebrated my birthday on the 2nd of January, interviewed glass artists, went searching for glass on the shore of the island, and visited the glass museum that had a special exhibit. It was very impressive. This was my first time in Murano. I loved it so much, that I will be heading back in May for the Glass Art Conference.

January was a great time to visit. Not busy at all, And after 5, all the day trip tourists would leave Murano and it was lovely and quiet.

The Glass Museum currently has a bead exhibit with a great number of sample cards and just a generally stunning collection.

I got goosebumps when I entered the museum and I saw the lockers for the bags. You know you are in the right place when you see this.....

Modern glass artists at work

Davide Penso, who makes blown glass beads and Miani Nicola with a more traditional set up (next to a modern torch)

Went searching for old and new glass bits.
Peter found me this double piece of star cane.
Also found lots of other interesting bits and piece.
It was tricky finding the right time between the high tide and the sunset....

Nice! Wish I had thought of beach-combing on Murano when I was there!

I am going to Venice and Murano in April. I love your idea of beach combing. Did jade hunting in Big Sur and the treasure hunt was great fun. Was it hard to get to your treasured beach? Are the locals ok with the hunt?

Send me a private message and I am happy to share the directions for treasure hunting. People ar fine with it. It is like a mix between a dumpsite and a deserted field by the water.

First is a large glass sculpture, second is us leaving Venice in heavy fog (which had us stuck at the airport for quite some time.....)

I am seeing now that some images came out pretty small, even though I exported them all identically. Sorry about that.....

The opening of the exhibit Dec. 1 at the Murano Glass Museum was covered by Giorgio.....

And it was the epic project by Augusto Panini to organize the collection in such a way to make the gorgeous book which is the catalog of the exhibit that came out last summer; I'm so happy that you got to see it!
