These lovely, parchment like shell disks are new to me. Are they a sort of puka shell? They don't appear to be ground at the edges but maybe they are. They have a slightly domed shape and visible concentric striations within.

Are they not tests of eggs of ostrich? In Africa, we often found this kind of necklaces and I always heard that it's tests of eggs of ostrich. It's old.

Hello Kika,
Thank you for responding.
I'm not sure that I understand what tests of eggs might be.
Can you elaborate?
My best,
LD

Hi Lindabd
They are small disks made with the shell of eggs of ostrich. Do you understand better? excuse me for my english!
Best regards,

I should have mentioned...

that the disks are only .6cm in diameter and perhaps 1mm thick.
I don't believe that they are ostrich shell. The domed shape and concentric circles inside seem to indicate a sea shell of some kind.
Thank you for having a look!

in Amsterdam you can find these kind of small flat fossil sea urchins in construction sand. Although these are hollow, thin walled and very brittle.
hope this can help you

But not too sure considering the concentric circles.....

Here is an example of a necklace I made with tiny see urchin 'shells' from a local beach. The largest here is about 8mm.

I wonder...
These are tougher than their papery quality would suggest.
I'm unable to capture the fine pores and ridges that I can see through a loupe.
Floor's strand does resemble them. Perhaps fossilized sea urchins are what these are.
Thank you.
