Hello all! I have not posted in a while as my no-where-in-my-tiny-brain password had eluded me. It just occurred to me so here goes!!
My understanding is that these are old Venetian white-hearts. Average size is 5 x 5 mm. I have a couple of questions: There are very thin, very slight, longitudinal lines evident on almost every one of these beads. Is this just cracking or crazing from age that has collected grime, or is it possible that these beads had a striped design that has been intentionally modified (removed). ? I'm hoping that the size and resolution of the photos allows for the close inspection needed for a well informed opinion. Thanks! Annie B

The lines are tiny bubbles in the original glass gather that became elongated when the gather was drawn out into a long tube prior to being chopped into bead lengths.

Very interesting Karliss, Thank you! Is it within the realm of "normal" to see such darkening?

The darkening is likely caused by fine dirt particles entering the ends of the bubbles and moving inward.
