"Keep away from drugs and beads. It breaks you." A master beads collector told me when I started getting involved in ancient beads field years ago. I told him that I'm not collecting I'm just curious. "Curiosity kills cat." He warned again. He is probably right but it doesn't kill woman I guess. ~Lily Zhu

Yes, one of my favourite books from the 80's. A beautifully written short novel, packed with observations about collecting and the collapse of totalitarian communism. Chatwin wrote it as he was dying. He had been a director of Sotheby's and knew a lot about how obsessive collectors can be. Thanks for reminding me about it, Linda. I'll read it again.
