The return of "Beads on a Budget"!

Well for the last several years it seems like something has always come crashing down on me right after the Gem Show. Home remodeling hell, family crisis, visiting relatives, etc. Thus I never got to photographing and posting pictures of purchases.

First up I have a group of real cheapies. I have already strung some of them but each individual strand was $0.50, the green dogbones were $1.00 per strand at a different location. The dealer said they weren't glass although they feel like it. Perhaps acrylic? I did notice in one case that the mono-filament they were strung on was stained the color of the bead. I don't think I'll expose these to water. Some of the dogbones show signs of a seam. Molded?

These are my purchases from Danny. I got three of his drilled marbles for $10 each. and the singles and strung groups were $5 from his Bin-O-Beads.

I had trouble posting this one and seem to have double posted. Any way to delete this?

Here are some of my scores from the African Village. The group of strands are $10 specials from a variety of dealers. The bicones are new made Chinese that I got for $25.

Here are some strands I got from Tasart. Let's just say that these are not budget beads. First is a strand of older blue and black Krobo beads. The second is a nice strand of Millifiore.

These two are also definitely not budget beads that I obtained from Tasart. The bicone is a Bodom while the more cylindrical one is an Akoso.

This may be my best find of the show. I purchased this "Ghana Strand" for $35 from an African dealer who had set up at the Doubletree on Alvernon. I thought I recognized that one bead as something special and Jamie agreed with me that it was an Islamic.

Here are some of my purchases from Bassam. There is a granite strand from Mali That I got for $35 and a modern made replica strand that he sold me for $25. The story behind the modern strand is that a friend of Basaam's who spends a lot of time in India taught the villagers how to make replicas of ancient beads. They now do this as an industry to support themselves. I actually tend to feel bad about buying from Basaam sometimes because he gives me such steep discounts on his goods.

First is a strand of modern glass beads that I got for $20 in the courtyard at Grant Road. The second are a couple of new beads that I purchased for $10 dollars from an old hippie that was set up in one of the hotels on the frontage road. I kind of think he took me on these but he was fun to talk to.

Last of all I have here a bag of Indian beads that I got for $5 from a dealer at the Doubletree. I am also showing a couple of interesting bits I found along the frontage road. The fossilized clam was $3 the fossilized horn coral was also $3 and the Orthocerus (sp?) was $1.

I had a bit more money than usual to spend this year so I managed some non-budget bits. But still if you look you can find some great deals.
