Clearly NOT!!! VERY CLEARLY NOT!!!
Christmas is a Christian holiday - aside from the Christian tradition it represents - nothing even remotely "muslim" should have any place in that!
I change my mind, when "The House of Saud" agrees to erect a Christmas tree in the yard of the "Al-Masjid al-Haram".
We from the Mediterranean outback don't really get the Christmas Tree spirit right, which is for us a recently imported Northern concept. Even fir trees are exotic to us! We are more culturally atuned to "pesebre" -- a dramatic staging of the biblical tale.
Please refer to the guidance in the statement at the top of the BCN open forum page.
Otherwise I'm afraid the forum will be littered with arguments that have nothing to do with beads.
I would say "fit for a queen" but that may sound like a political comment in favor of monarchy.
Hi Nishedha,
it's a pity that I have to explain, what I think, does not need any explanation. I do it for nothing but the forum's "social hygene". Please don't get me wrong. I am not making "a wave" here and this is not a critique of any kind. Just an effort to be clear!
1.) In my post I did NOT-NOT refer to the physical properties of your pendant.
2.) It is not true that your original post was "focused on the beads exclusively". Actually the opposite is the case. You wanted to know if we would like to adorn our Christmas trees with that pendant.
3.) I knew that you had neither politics nor religion in mind, asking your question. I just took the chance to make a political statement, answering your question the "religiously correct" way. As an unpolitical person I had most likely responded: "Yes, I would (decorate my tree with that pendant), refering to the beauty of the bead, the gold and the design. Still, the focus of your question - taken literally - was not aiming at beauty. It was aiming at (our) Christmas tree decoration! Therefore it is not the case that you focused on the bead EXCLUSIVELY, as you wrote. You may have meant to do so, but I should not interpret your thoughts, instead respond to the question as asked.
Take it this way: I would certainly like to adorn my wall; the mirror of my car, or the neck of a beautiful female with your creation. We should not dilute strong Christian symbols, though. No Moroccan mint-tea in our Western red wine. Not these days, when we should all stand united to reject any infiltration of our Christian regalia, including soft targets like a Christmas tree!
I guess, I exaggarate a bit. Am I just splitting hairs? Or is this an effort to save Western culture...?
Sorry, Nishedha, I used your innocent question to take a RELIGOLOUS stand. Nothing personal! Nothing against your taste. Nothing against your concept of beauty - how could it be, when I share it?
It's true - this is a bead forum and the rules require we keep mouth shut on such subjects. I just thought the (underlying) subject was important enough to bend the rules - ... as an exception!
PS
Remember Christmas in Goa...? Star-shaped lampions in palm trees?
I took the liberty of changing the title of my posting, after realizing that it could be used in ways I had not foreseen (i.e. not bead-centered, say).
Thus, my original question was not deleted, but shifted instead into the less public, more private lower (text) case, to avoid causing some answers to it being left senseless.
Again - my response (to your question!) had a "cultural" subtext - was NOT personal!
The mixture of islamic with Christian symbols should be
" NISHEDH "
I believe.
