Thoughts on Red Copal Bead?

All -- I acquired this large red "amber" bead in an estate collection of a serious bead collector a while ago. I think that it's actually copal, but am not entirely sure. Unlike most beads of this type that I've seen, the hole is not as worn as I would expect, although it it slightly tapered (narrower in the middle). Bead measures about 2 inches from top to bottom and weighs 28.3 grams.

Thoughts? And any thoughts on how to price it?

Thanks!

By the way, I ended up breaking out the macro lens anyway, so here are a couple of better photos.

Hi Abe,
Have you done any tests to detect an odor - hot water, hot needle, ream the hole, etc?

It may be one of the imitation amber materials - phenolic resin, polystyrene, etc.

Impossible to tell from the picture.
