Antique Berber coral. Sourced in the medina quarter of Marrakesh, Morocco. One and one half inch in height. One inch wide. Or 38mm x 25mm.

I am thinking of trying to have the missing wire wrap authentically replaced. Or -no matter how well it is done- do you feel it would definitely detract from the patina of this piece?

Please recommend someone who can replace the wire so that it looks like it has been there for a long time.

Do you know a metal smith with an artistic flare for burnishing a silver wire around this big old Berber bead?

I have considered high karat gold because it is soft enough to add texture easily.

Thomas says gold would make the bead look Tibetan & silver would look Berber.

I agree with Thomas. Berber jewelry only uses silver. Moroccan 'City jewelry' used semi precious and precious stones and gold.

Adding the wire...

I have received a number of private responses by email and by phone. Here is one:

D. E. answers:

"The silver wire can be burnished into the groove so it will appear to be an old repair."
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………...

More specific questions:

1… Will adding a wire require a flame and/or affect the patina of the surrounding area?

2… Did Tibetan'a have identical beads which were also wire wrapped?
