I was going through my bead collection and seperating my beads! When, i got to my box of prescious Morfias, i was especially careful to place them on the table one by one! One quick movement by myself caused the table to move and beads went rolling to the edge of the table! My heart in my throat, i lunged to keep the beads from falling to the ground! I saved most of them from rolling off of the table except one! With my heart pounding , my eyes followed one as it fell to the floor! I heard a PING! I was afraid to look at it and when , i did, i found what you see in the picture! A perfectly good Morfia split in two!!!!! BOO HOO! SHOULD A GROWN WOMAN CRY OVER A BEAD??? In disgust, i reached for the trash can with the intention of throwing it away! Then, i remembered that Mauritanian women value these beads so highly that they break them into pieces to make them into beautiful jewelry! We plan to go back to Africa at the end of the year so, i will have an opportunity to make a woman in Mauuritania very happy! But, i am curious to know what you beadlovers would do with this ? Would you throw it away or what? Thank you for your answers!

Mount in gold as earrings. Or a brooch pair. Or a figure-8 pendant.

Assuming the break was clean, I would glue them together using Acryloid B-72. It’s a non-yellowing adhesive used by conservators. It can be reversed in acetone. It can be purchased at Conservation Resources: http://www.conservationresources.com/Main/section_34/section34_16.html

They're probably not old, like yours, but I've always thought that these bell pulls that I bought from an afghan stall are a novel and resourceful way of recycling broken beads.

Hi adjichristine,

itÕs breathtaking when such an accident happens.

Is it possible before you take any other steps to reuse or repair the bead, to make some better (sharper) pictures of the broken bead?
I would love to place them on the Boulevard of Broken Beads https://www.flickr.com/photos/hans0621/sets/72157642734995904/
to give bead lovers and -researchers permanent more insight in beads.
And as a small comfort, maybe it can save the live of other beads in this way ;-)
best wishes, Hans
