Hello, I inherited a very large collection of mostly African trade beads. However, I am having a hard time identifying these carved beads. They are lightweight, definitely not glass or stone. I believe they may be made of wood. The lady who owned them lived abroad with her husband as he was an employee of World Vision and she was an employee of the US Embassy. The only places I know they lived for sure was Africa (Ivory Coast, I believe) and the Philippines. Any help with identifying these would be appreciated.

i can see small cylindrical "prosser" moulded beads of opaque white glass, and a bunch of white carved Turkish Meerschaum beads - that's what was often also carved into the bowls of tobacco pipes. The beads may not be terribly old-

My picture shows 2 turkish necklaces of beads like yours and some loose carved beads of Meerschaum from Tanzania that have been waxed and polished-

(trying to send the image but my system doesn't like to send it so will try again separately- it doesn't believe me when i reduce the image size... )

Thank you so much, I did Google that and it does appear to be the same style. I would love to see yours. Thanks for identifying the other ones as well, I know NOTHING about beads! I am going to be going through them, identifying them and selling them on etsy.

Have you tried using the site "picresize.com?" I've found it's very easy to use and works very well. I always enter 255 in the space for the largest you want to make your photo and leave the other options as they come up. I think it usually says it will make your photo 50% smaller. It let's you review your photo and then you just have to download, then you can find it in your downloads pretty much immediately after. Just a suggestion.
