Our community has lost our friend Silva Neilands yesterday. I am out of words at this time, but am sure many will agree with my note to Silva last week.......

My heart is very heavy, I am so thankful that we had our little visits in Tucson thru these recent years...I love your sharp wit, your astute political views, your keen taste, the list goes on. I am thankful for you in this world, and I love you.

Silva's site, oldbeads.com, was one of the first selling ethnic/antique/ancient beads and jewelry that I found on the internet - it had to be around the year 2000. I have always admired her honest and simple way of describing things, and in person, her perspective was amazing.

She will be so very missed by family, friends and customers the world over.

I enjoyed the website for many years and learned a lot from it. Her energy seemed to shine through the site. Yes Joyce, she will definitely be missed!

So lovely to read your beautiful words Joyce. I was lucky enough to live in the same city as Silva and we became good friends many years ago connected via beads. She lived life with such passion and curiosity and with such a gentle, kind and creative spirit. Her knowledge and experience of beads and bead people was deep going back decades and always left me in awe. It is impossible to believe she is no longer here. I miss her so much.

I am so sorry to hear this.I never met Silva, but I feel like losing someone I knew, if only a little. She was sincere and open in her oldbeads site, and never felt it too much to answer my silly questions. You could read her respect and genuine interest for the cultures that produced the treasures she was offering.

My sincere condoleances to her family and friends. She will be missed.

On our Tucson trips, Silva was one of those people that you will not overlook. She may not always be the loudest, but she certainly has something to say.

I found that she had an eagerness to teach, but also and eagerness to learn. That is quite a rare combination.

In March, we spent a great day with Margot and Silva. Driving around Toronto, sitting down for a 'High tea' and talking beads and life. Treasured memories.

Oh no! I didn't know her in person but I learned so much from her online. I am SO sad to hear that she is gone. RIP Silva. I never knew you. So wish I had.
