We haven't had any pet pictures lately - so here is my contribution -

While getting ready to bring my tote filled with jewelry trays to the local bead society's member's sale, Bob the cat decided to take possession, or maybe he wanted to go with me.

Bob is a Bombay cat - short silky black fur, with golden eyes. The Bombay breed is also called the Parlour Panther, as it was bred to resemble the panther. Being all black, Bob has a tendency to disappear easily into dark corners, open cupboards, boxes, bags, etc. As in this picture, he seems to enjoy blending in with the scenery.

I happen to know that a favorite place of Rosanna's cats is her bead room!

Seen the look in his face, Bob probably didn't want to let you go :)

Gorgeous Bombay cat! Bringing the subject back to beads, I offer a photo of two of my cats with some of their less favorite beads. The beads pictured do not roll as easily as their favorite beads, when knocked off of desks or tables.

Bob wanted me to let everyone know that he is indeed a Bombay Cat, not a Chinese or Javanese Copy Cat, and offers this image from his childhood to establish provenance.

Also, he corrected me by pointing out that it is now proper to refer to him as a Mumbai Cat.

Chinese copy for comparison

Here is an image of a Chinese Copy Cat, which sometimes go by the "trade name" of Japanese Luck Cat, for comparison to an actual Mumbai Cat. As we all know, trade names often have nothing to do with the actual source of the cat.

I do not have any Javanese Copy Cats to help with this important topic - sorry!

As Fred has pointed out, it takes years of careful study of both originals and copies in order to distinguish them from one another, so please don't be discouraged if the differences are not readily apparent from photographs.

It actually took me a minute to find Bob in the Mumbai photo--good one!

I miss my kitty. She had to stay behind because she wouldn't have handled a 10-day cross-country trip in a very small 2006 Scion with two biggish dogs. Fortunately, she is staying with a delightful cat lady until I can figure out how to get her to California safely. Unfortunately, she is working her way into the cat lady's heart!
