In my talk at the Bead Conference in Istanbul I showed 3 pendants from India of the recent production of this type:
One had turquoise-stained chips of bone.
The substance into which they are embedded is bitumen or pitch.

For some reason my talk got omitted from the published proceeds and also from the subsequent addenda.
It is entitled: Realistic Replicas, Ingenious Imitations and Fascinating Fakes -Collecting Brazen Copies in the World of Beads.

The Bead Society of Great Britain will be printing some excerpts in upcoming issues of our newsletter, along with the photos.

(I'm going away for 10 days but will offer more information when I return).
