White clay residue in holes - Czech or Japanese?

I recognize the tell-tale sign of white powdery mandrel release residue in the holes is an indicator of Czech lamp work - but did the Japanese also leave white residue in the holes, or do their beads - Cherry Brand, for instance - have clean holes?

As I was cleaning the green verdigris from some of the brass beads, the rotted thread broke (fortunately over a towel). So I had an impromptu re-stringing project.

As I was putting the broken strand back together, I noticed that the small green and maroon spacer beads had traces of the whitish residue, even after all these years.
