Many of the beads in your grandfather's necklace are plain wound beads—that can be some of the most difficult sorts to identify with any confidence.

However, the patterned mosaic-glass bead forming the pendature is a bead I know quite well—because I am the sole person to isolate these from other millefiori beads, and to have an unusual explanation for their manufacture and appearance.
