Since these strands of large (30 mm and up) irregular amber-colored beads seem to keep cropping up I finally decided to buy a strand when I found one for a fairly low price.

Similar beads often are advertised as from Tibet, Nepal, Africa or Morocco. Not sure where these particular ones were made but I can say for sure they are polystyrene beads, coated with a thick brown layer of some sort - maybe shellac.
