Unusual message to display, There are frequent hack attempts. BCN will be 19 years old this May 2. Itís remarkable for any website to last this long, Applause to David for keeping BCN on line. Itís a great resource with our searchable archive.
I've had the same experience when logging in. It comes from my Firefox browser and started when the URL's switched from http to https. However it's not been a problem. It says "This connection is not secure. Logins entered here could be compromised".
As Joyce indicates, this is likely due to the age of the BCN software which likely does not have the type of encryption that is used in more modern software.
I was getting this warning with my old (out-of-date) Safari browser. I didn't take any notice, just clicked and came in.
But now, with Safari up-dated, the warning isn't there any more.
I don't understand any of this!
I believe it is related to the SSL certificate having expired. This allows the site to run on a secure https://
instead of http://
Its a technical problem that would require the webmaster or provider to fix. I think the main point is, data you send to the server as users is potentially not encrypted. So long as you aren't entering any credit card information or using the same passwords you use on important sites, I don't think it would be a major problem until fixed.
Google says my password was compromised on this site leading to the security warning.
