The quotes shown demonstrate that that author has a rather limited view of glassworking and terms. He or she is talking about a single bead using the technology of two very different beads/beadmaking. Nevertheless, in my writings I have compared/contrasted both--and I have proposed that folding EVOLVED from combing. (It can be looked-upon as a type of "deep combing," that developed into its own idiom.)

Both combed and folded beads were trailed! So this is not a dichotomy between "trailing and folding." That misstates the error the author made.

So, summing-up--A combed bead is not a "folded bead." But one could say (with some accuracy) that "A folded bead derives from a type of combing, under certain circumstances."
