Bead Collector Network needs our help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found out the other day that the server fees for the BCN are once again coming due, this is a site that is solely supported from gifts and/or grants, all of which have dried up to date, now Joyce is faced with a decision: archive and shut down or beg for funds to keep going!
I say this is a valuable tool for any and all bead collectors and we should all support the cause, I think the fees are somewhere around $200 per period? And I am going to list some beads here on the FREE Trades Pages that will be used to help defray costs, I will donate 100% of the sales from what I list,(up to $200), minus shipping.....if you have a wish list of beads or bead items you would like to buy from me for this cause, please let me know and I will try to list it! Thanks for any and all help to keep this site up and running!!! Thomas (TASART)

PS the bead shown is not for sale

Good Idea! I could just donate a check but it's nice to get something knowing the money is going to a good thing so I've changed some of my Trade Page Listings to help keep a good forum alive.

Bead Swap for the Forum! :)

Please visit Thomas' site and chip in, even if only $1! With something like 800 registered forumites, the fees can be covered for a year if everyone sends as little as $1. For the non-registered "lurkers", you do NOT have to register on BCN to go to Thomas' link and donate. So don't delay!

And while you are at it, please toss in a little more to help defray the other expenses and time that Joyce and David pour into BCN.

Let's keep it rolling!

Gratitude to everyone! And to Thomas for striding forward with this idea!

The second and third quarter fees came from my meager checking account, since we are between grants at this time. So your donations help to cover April - September server fees and domain registries for the site. I surely appreciate the assistance, because beadcollector.net is a huge and rather expensive site with a dedicated server. We aren't lucky enough to have a buddy who owns a server farm or anything like that, but we ARE lucky enough to have a wonderful membership of folks who are coming through! I thank you all so very much, because I can't afford to pay for this site!

And I believe it's a fantastic educational resource for the collecting community. We don't pretend to be experts, but we have members of every level of knowledge and experience and it makes for a wonderful bead destinaton. With the closure of two bead museums in the United States, it's important to keep a place open like beadcollector.net, even though it's a virtual place. It's continuity depends on us all, in many ways!

If the hoped for grant comes through, those funds will be applied to fees starting October - December, and hopefully through next September.

If you have made a new friend, a sale (or many) on the trades pages, found a new source or a new customer, or learned something on this site, please consider helping out.

Thank you, thank you!!

BCN is an amazing resource and I am am grateful for those who contribute time, knowledge, money, etc.

As I'm a relatively new collector, this bead forum is invaluable for me. I wouldn't want to lose such a valuable resource esp since I haven't gotten around to visiting the bead museums left in the US. So I hope the purchase I made from Charles helps a bit!
Thank you to Joyce and everyone else who contribute to make this such a great place!

I have my own server space that is 1.5 terabytes. This said I could possibly put BCN on it or better yet I could get BCN set up on its own shared server the size of mine. I think I only pay 80.00 a year for my server space.

If you think this might work have David contact me.

All my best ......... Danny

P.S. Thomas I am going to donate 200 if the beads are still not taken great and if so I'll still do the donation.

Thanks Joyce & David for all you do.
Thanks, Thomas, for organizing the quick paypal solution.

I was going to offer a hosting solution on our server but we've recently added hosting for some local non-profits which might grow to some size and activity. The combination might outgrow our server.

And to Thomas for organizing this. It truly was spontaneous on his part.
It's the first time in 5 years we have had to ask for donations, and it's a tough time for most people, so we are very heartened by the support!! I know that times are different now for everyone since bcn started. But what a dynamic, diverse community we have become! The members of bcn have enriched my bead knowledge, curiosity and pleasure every day for years. What an amazing thing!

Gratitude!!! I am speechless.

Here's an old bcn image of the late Zinder, my mother-in-law's sweet dog. She had at least some Azawakh in her heritage. Azawakh are the Tuareg bred desert sighthound. Zinder is wearing a Susan Green necklace made with a Tuareg pendant.

Below that is an image of a protype mock-up of a new BCN fake dzi bead that I did a few years ago. What do you think?!

Unless I go back to China soon or Abdul has time to track down sellers from the community where most of the new dZi style beads are made we have no direct line to get these made.
My sources have moved out of Guangzhou or moved to somewhere that my China Agent can't find.

Anyone else have connections in that part of the world?
