Sold as Venetian, but to my eye they look like new "tributes" of this style of Venetian bead - one which I've rarely seen for sale anywhere. I've personally gotten a scant few, beat-up ones, on some mixed trade strands.

In case many of you haven't ever seen this bead, they appear on sample cards, and all the samples as well as the few I've handled, are decorated. The image is from the Sick Catalog, 1910- 1913 vintage. One of the Sick beads appears to have the same dark teal color as the plain ones. So I suppose they could be uncirculated Venetian.

I seem to recall they are known as "nail heads" or something like that - please post any info you have!

Nail heads, as I understand the term, are small molded sew-down pieces, as made by the Czechs. They are tabular like a very small cabochon, circular, and may have a rounded convex upper. Sometimes faceted. Sometimes concave on the underside; and with two or four holes for being sewn.

Hi Rosanna
I think you got lucky. I have a few solid green from the trade see the picture.
I think yours are just uncirculated Venetian. Great find.

I have seen them called fish beads when sold with the snail shaped ones like those in the picture.
Don't know of any other common name for them.

I was actually asking for a friend, so I’m not the lucky one. Except I’m lucky as well as grateful for your info since I had only ever seen the versions in yellow with stripes.
