I got this email from Rings 'n' Things today, and had to share it! Image is of the necklace made of beads donated by BCN forum members. I am so honored to be part of this group, and grateful for my chance to "talk" with such a wonderful person. (We never met in person, but we chatted a lot!)

This was the special and thoughtful healing necklace given to our founder, Russ Nobbs, by his kind and wonderful friends on beadcollector.net.
This necklace gave him so much joy, on so many levels, that I'm teary eyed revisiting the details for his birthday this weekend. Although Russ passed in 2014, his love of jewelry making and beads lives on in his business, his family and his friends. This very special Friday email gives homage to his journey, his friends and his favorites.
The necklace is about 48" long and weighs 13 ounces. As Joyce noted on beadcollector.net: "Maybe not for square dancing or picking up recyclables at music festivals, but for sipping lattes, attending art openings or the theater, dining with other bead heads, perfect!"
To be honest, he often wore his best beads while picking up recyclables at arts & crafts shows, but she's right -- maybe not at music festivals.

I was happy to be part of the project to give some comfort and joy to Russ .
I would like to annotate that #39 is indeed a mother-of-pearl bead collected from a Bedouin woman from the Sinai desert.
Thank you LuAnne for reminding us of Russ’s devotion to the bead collectors’ world

If anyone else wants to attach their name or the history of their bead, let Polly know! (Russ's daughter.) I know she'll be happy to hear what beautiful memories we have of Russ. 🤗

Remembering Russ

As I remember, Russ received his necklace in time for his last chemo treatment before his stem cell transplant. I had asked everyone to include a recipe card along with their bead giving its age, origin, and provenance…., these documents arrived mostly on full sized paper. So I put together a full sized binder guide for Russ of his BCN necklace of everyone’s original notes. The cover of the binder was an image of the necklace. He told me that although he could not bring any beads or jewelry into the hospital, he was allowed to bring in the binder, and he put the picture of the necklace on the wall near him where he could see it.

Luann,

Thank you so much for sharing this! I think of Russ often, and was just thinking of him last night! The necklace was a joy to assemble for him - it came from heartfelt healing energy from dozens of bead people who loved him. It nearly put itself together over a couple of evenings once I decided on the logistics.

2014 was the last year he came to the Tucson shows and he brought his necklace with him to the BCN dinner.

He’s got to be one of the most unifying people I’ve ever met in the world of beads. Missing him dearly.

Russ had these beads made and passed them out in Tucson one year. It has a prominent spot in my wall display of special beads - a reminder of his happy and generous nature!

And one is always hiding....
Sometimes both of them!
But they always turn up again and make me smile.

I was part of this as well, although now I can't remember which bead I sent. :)
