Here are a small group of possible pyu/tircul ‘etched’ beads, I think... from looking at photos and reading posts...

If I take close ups will it help in identifying if they are old/authentic? What is the age range of pyu/tircul culture beads?

I’m such a beginner, trying to make sense of grannies collection. Also, I am a jewellery designer myself (Grannie was a jeweller whose work specialised in her own hand made silver beads alongside those she collected) and I don’t want to blindly use her beads without a true appreciation of what they are! Maybe some are too precious to use in my own work.

Also, I have some carved varieties and treated varieties that I think are pumtek, based on what I have researched so far. I’ll post photos of those in this thread too..

And a similar bead, but with a grain like appearance- like stone, if you look very closely... as well as a treated appearance

And hand carved ones, which almost seem to have a stained colouration. I thought maybe bone!?

Is this just a general quest, or do you have specific questions?

Were these beads brought out of Burma—where there would be a reasonable assumption that they would be Tircul beads? Or are they just in the Collection with no identification?

Virtually all of the beads you show have "color treatments." No need to wonder "if."

If you use Facebook, I have shown my entire pumtek collection at my page. Friend me and take a look.

Thanks Jamey,

First look on Facebook and I can’t work out which account is yours. Is it under Jamey D Allen? Mine is Zoe Catherine Kendall and I have an artist page there too which might be easier to find.

In terms of your question about my quest - I thank you for this - I am going to write this as a new post to all - explain what I trying to do, then you can tell me if it is bothersome or interesting to your community! I’d hate for the former, but also fair enough...

Kind regards Zoe

I routinely post (the same as here) under the moniker Beadman—which is in the names of my two current and active FB Groups.
