I picked up this three-strand beaded glass necklace in NH, I think, and I'm guessing it was under $10, since I rarely pay much for things like this. Once again, I was going to take it apart for the beads. I thought they were Czech glass.

Today I took a closer look at it. The clasp is marked "Japan". The beads are mostly swirled, all colors in brown and orange, with faux pearls.

I don't like the fake pearls, but I might just add chain to it to make it a wearable length. And/or replace the pearls with real ones.

Enjoy!

I have acquired several Japanese necklaces over the years with similar swirled beads. They are finely crafted beads. I'm especially fond of the blue/purple swirls. Most of the strands came from thrift stores, usually needing repair. I remove the fake pearls and plain beads. I hope one day to design a necklace using only the swirled glass beads.

Birdi (and others),

These beads are not "swirled."

They have a predictable formal wound spiraled structure.

A swirled bead would be more random, with curlicues and elongations going in different directions.
