Tucson shows - now only 1 1/2 to 2 weeks, or less - my shopping venue list

The 2-3 weeks of Tucson shows we are used to from the past has shrunk somewhat to 1 1/2 to 2 weeks for the "main" shows of interest to collectors.

Here is my list of recommended shows & their dates. You can get detailed info by looking at the shows' web sites.

28 Jan - 11 Feb. SRGJ Silk Road Gem & Jewelry (includes the Ethnographic Group)
30 Jan - 15 Feb. GIGM Motel 6 (used to be Howard Johnson)
31 Jan - 12 Feb. Pueblo Gem & Mineral Show
1 Feb - 16 Feb. African Art Village
1 Feb - 9 Feb. GL&W Gem Mall & Holidome (requires wholesale registration)

There are many other shows of course. Here are a few I like to stop by and check out new beads, findings, hats, scarfs, baskets, wood carvings etc. Occasionally there are some interesting collectibles to be found. There is often a smattering of Africans selling at some of these shows.

30 Feb - 15 Feb. 22St Mineral Fossil & Gem Show
30 Jan - 10 Feb. JOGS Gem & Mineral Main Show (requires wholesale registration)
30 Jan - 16 Feb. Kino Gem & Mineral Show
1 Feb. - 8 Feb. To Bead True Blue / Bead & Design Show

Several sellers known to a lot of BCN forumites have relocated this year:

Tiger Tiger will be at Pueblo as well as 22nd St.
Lou Zeldis moved to Pueblo as well.

Additionally:
Tom & Sage Holland will be at the Kino show.
J-Me & Guy (Wild Thing Beads) will be at the JOGS show.
Joe Loux and Kamol will be at G&LW Gem Mall.

Hot tip - last year Joe Loux had a large selection of trade beads for very nice prices, from an estate sale. His booth always has some good surprise "finds".

And don't forget to spend a lazy morning or afternoon driving to Green Valley to see Nicole's The Glory of Beads suite. On the way back it's convenient to make the side trip to the Casino Del Sol for the To Bead True Blue / Tucson Bead and Design Shows.

There are no group BCN group events planned that I know of, but feel free to post here with suggestions for lunch or dinner meet-ups.

There will be a mini-symposium on Weds. evening Feb. 5 at the Sonoran Glass School again, so that's one opportunity for everyone to at least say hello. There will be some time to mingle in the sales tent before the lectures start. Floor Kaspers is the organizer.

Travel note: the weather has been in the high 60s in Tucson during the day, and down in the 30s-40s at night. Plus sometimes very windy so wind chill is an issue. If you plan to be out after dark, don't forget to bring some very warm clothing! I've learned that the hard way on past trips!

See y'all in the Big T!

Thanks Rosanna for taking the time to write all this valuable info and suggestions. For those who want to do something other than beads, there's the San Xavier mission located between Tucson and Green Valley. It's known as "the white dove of the desert." It's beautiful.

What a great overview!

A few things to ad or emphasize:
- The Bead symposium is on Feb 5 from 7 to 9 pm. Private opening, as Rosanna said of the Sonoran Glass Art show is from 6 to 7 pm, and there will also be some drinks and snacks. I will also be showing my glass art at the Sonoran Glass Art show from Feb 5 to Feb 9.
- For those who like to watch glass being molten live: The Flame Off from the Sonoran Glass School is on Feb 8. I will also be participating in this, so come cheer me on!
- Tom and Sage Holland will be at The Best Bead show, which has moved back to the Kino Veterans Memorial Center. To avoid confusion: this is not the same show as the Kino Gem & Mineral show.
- The SRGJ show, which includes many familiar faces such as Thomas Stricker and Jamey Allen has moved locations. It is now in Tucson Inn and Suites. This is pretty close to the Gem Mall and JOGS. They have a late night opening on Feb 3 til 9pm. My suggestion is that this will be an informal BCN meet as well?

And another option for an informal BCN meet up: Peter and I have become fans of the different restaurants at Mercado San Agustin. It is close to the African Art Village and a pick up point for shuttles. They have a great Mexican food place, coffee, Mexican bakery, etc. Peter and I will be there on Sunday the 2nd for brunch at 10 am, and Tuesday the 4th at 9 am for breakfast. It gets busy on the weekends, but it is a nice place to hang out, enjoy food or just a Mexican donut and some coffee. Get together with bead friends before kicking off your shopping spree!
Who's with me?

Floor, are you in Tucson Jan. 31? I have to come back Feb. 2 so will miss your presentation, sadly.

I have contacted Marisco's 1009 N. Grande Ave. near Speedway about a BCN group for Friday January 31 beginning about 6:30 (Ethnographic is listed to close at 6 so I set the time to be immediately after). I told them about 30-40 people base on what Joyce had covered with me a few weeks ago when we chatted about a past meet up there. I'll post on facebook too, and if you can make it, please shoot me an email at joy_b@comcast.net or reply here or on my fb post.

So, those looking to meet up for the breakfasts I mentioned: Peter and will still be there, and no reservations are required, so just join us if you feel like it.

And very much looking forward to the now official, I think 11th Marisco's BCN Margarita Summit!

This picture is from 2012, my 2nd Tucson trip, I think.

Hearing today of Stefany's arrival dates, I am contacting Marisco's to change our meet up to Saturday February 1, instead of the Friday.

Address is 1009 N. Grande Ave., near Speedway

Also to allow more time to get there after show closings that night, let's plan for 7:00 start time instead of 6:30.

So... 7:00 on Saturday, February 1
Marisco's (Mexican seafood restaurant)
Saturday, February 1
7:00 p.m until... ((end time not determined))

My email address is joy_b@comcast.net

Hello all! I'm not sure if I'll make it to Marisco's but I will be wandering around the Tucson shows again so I may see some of you. I saw that the Ethnographic Group will be opening the 28th. Does anybody know if Tasart will be in attendance this year? I've been trying to help him out with all the trouble he has carrying those heavy Akoso and Bodom around.

Thomas is "Second In Command"—so of course he will be there.

Beautiful necklace, TASART!
Would you tell us what the brown and black stone disc beads are?
Something more specific than "excavated, ancient, from Mali..."
