These are interesting beads! The inconsistency is curious. But the bright red layer screams "new bead". Most recently, I've seen them at the Marin Indian Show, misrepresented.

I refer to those pix every time I have a suspicion!

I have an original box full of the brown ones, and they look like... well, let us say I understand completely why Russ didn't sell many, either.

A serious design challenge, convincing anyone to actually wear these brown beads.

Maybe aquarium gravel.

However I registered for the auction in case a few of the interesting items don't get bid up too high. Mr. Rice really was fond of chevrons!
