trying to see if these imaged are any smaller... sorry about that
Yes, this image is smaller than the first one.
Now, I do not like the red beads next to the orange cubes.
And what color will you use to set them off?
My usual design would be to use your main scarab beads in the center of the necklace, with smaller, more neutral spacers. Then you can use smaller, similar colored beads and the same spacers for the rest of the necklace.
OR find a larger focal bead or pendant for the center, and use the scarab beads on both side evenly, again with smaller neutral spacer beads.
What I've found focuses attention on the larger beads is this patter: several small found beads, a flat disc/heishi (glass or metal), larger bead, another flat disc/heishi, and several small round neutral beads. Repeat.
Hth!
Thankyou everyone so far, so the orange cubes are a no then , I was questioning myself on that. I think I will keep the green as the accompanying colour as although most of it has worn off I think green was the highlighting colour on the scarabs.
What about the direction of the beads? I think alternating looks better than all the same direction....
The Czech Egyptian revival necklaces usually have the scarab heads pointing up. However I just noticed that I restrung my necklace with the heads down! I might have to redo that one.
Also they often have seed beads in between the beads (or equivalently knots) which lightens up the appearance. The seed beads can be contrasting in color.
I don’t care for the cubes either. I think you should stick with opaque glass. As suggested, I think you need a pendant as a focal piece. There are a handful of sellers on eBay with Czech Egyptian revival pieces and one just posted a nice selection of pendants.
Good luck with your project and thanks for sharing!
No indeed thankyou for your input. I might look for a pendant and then face the scarabs up from either side.
I’ll post a pic when I’m done
