Hello all,
I have been a reader of BCN for the past few years. Through my reading of the forum, I have been bitten by the bead collecting bug. I love learning about the history of the beads, where they come from, and how they are made. I am a younger bead collector in my 20's. I have started experimenting making my own beads. I am make them from stones, shells and corals I find at the beach. So far I have mostly made pendants. Here is what I have made so far.

A subject a few of us discuss regularly is how we may be able to bring new people into this interest. I'm glad you are creating and seeing in your day to day world. This is a good thing! Thank you for showing these pendants. They have a simple, rustic charm, so appropriate for a soft leather cord.

I LOVE that coral drop! And like Joyce said, I like the organic feel of the stones you've collected. Pebble picking at the beach is my absolute favorite activity! I haven't mastered drilling my own yet, though. How long does it take you to drill each stone?

I have been using a dremel tool with diamond drill bits. I try keep the specimens submerged in a bowl of water to control the dust. I drill from both sides so the holes meet in the middle. The time it takes to drill depends on the material. 5-10 minutes for the harder stuff. almost instantly for the softer stuff like coral.
